This, That and the Other

Hi All,

Well done to Studley PS on winning the Midland Bank Trophy. We put up a good show but take solace from we didn’t come last and the positive is we don’t have to worry about finding the little shields as the original design is no longer made. My thoughts are, although we put up some very good images we were missing some sports images which the judge seemed to score highly but there again a different judge and who knows. Still we have won it for the past three years so maybe it’s about time for a temporary change and we will get it back next year. Thank you to all who let their Images be used.

This week we have our own Monthly Print Competition so some nervous moments as we wait on the judge’s verdict. What I personally hate is when the judge makes some encouraging and complimentary  comments so lifting hopes then dash them as he says “move on, next”.

The early group (which is for everyone) at 7.00 pm start has Tony Gervis showing how, by a few tweaks, we can make something out of very little and to prove it he is using members’ own images. That’s a bit like a high wire acrobat working without a safety net.

I did mention last Tuesday that both Jenny Webster and Colin Close had achieved their DPAGB distinctions giving the club now three members with DPAGB’s. Due to time restrictions and not wanting to show off to the two other clubs present. I could have also mentioned Acceptances in Smethwick Salon of International Photography by Barry Green, Colin Close, Jenny Webster and Julie Hall.  And to top it all Jenny Webster picked up a PAGB Silver Medal in the nature section. Well done to all. Whilst mentioning exhibitions Solihull’s 41st Open Exhibition closes for entries very shortly on 15th December. Prints and PDI’s see:  https://solihullopenexhibition.co.uk/ worth a punt to get your feet wet if you fancy a try.

Just a reminder that St Michaels Church does have the Christmas trees lit every day 10 am to 4 pm and drinks and cakes on the weekends. Worth taking a camera for some cool seasonal masterpieces,

“tis the season to be merry troll-al-lol-a-lar”.

Yes it’s getting close to exciting Christmas and we have had a good start to the booking of the New Year Party and a start to sales (or should I say an investment) of tickets for our Mega Raffle Draw with high value Amazon Gift Vouchers as main prizes plus lots of surprises. The booking list is available at the ‘signing-in’ desk and don’t forget you can always bring a guest and at just £7 it’s a high value cheap night out.

Sorry I’m a bit late with this news letter but have been putting up the decorations and if I have to say so myself “Gail you’ve done a wonderful job”.

Hope to see you Tuesday for what should be another great night.

Best wishes
Roger Lewis
