Firstly, huge congratulations to Jenny Webster, who has just been awarded here EFIAP/D1 distinction. This is an amazing distinction to have gained, and takes literally years to achieve, as you can only apply for one distinction per year and you have to work up through all the previous levels first. EFIAP distinctions require a significant number of accepted and/or awarded images at international competitions across multiple countries, meaning that Jenny has proved herself to be a photographer of significant international standing. I’m sure everyone in the club will want to join me in congratulating Jenny on this fantastic achievement.

Secondly, please look out for the email from Colin Close regarding the 1940s events at the Severn Valley Railway. Colin will be at Kidderminster Station from 11am tomorrow, Sunday June 8th, and has volunteered to show any BPS members how easy it is to get pictures of people/ close ups/ steam trains/ people in uniform vs civilians in vintage dress. Please let Colin know if you are planning to meet up there. I think the weather is expected to be better than today! The event is also on next weekend, if you can’t make it tomorrow.

After that, the next event on the summer programme calendar is on Tuesday June 10th, where Steve Williams volunteered to organize a lunch at the Queens Head in Bromsgrove followed by a canal-side walk. Steve will (hopefully) be sending out more details soon – please let him know if you plan to be there. Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it due to a prior engagement.

Next Saturday, June 13th is another summer programme outing, this time led by me, to the Norton Collection Museum in Bromsgrove. Meet at 11am at the museum – it’s a fascinating place for anyone that has an interest in local history. There’s a Town Criers competition in the High Street immediately before, so worth going along to that too. I will send out more details nearer the time – again, please let me know if you are planning to come along.

The first meetup of the summer programme, last Tuesday, was a great success, with a dozen or more members enjoying a walk along the Stourbridge Canal from the Bonded Warehouse site, followed by drinks in the local pub. Thanks to Ele for organising it. One of the great things about the summer programme is finding out about new locations on our doorstep that we might not have known before – whether we get great photos or not, they make for great trips. For example, I was not aware of Dudmaston Hall until last year’s summer programme outing to go there, but now that I know it I’ve been back for another visit with my family. Hopefully others will also discover new places to visit that become favourites.

That’s it for now – maybe see some of you tomorrow!

Richard
