A busy week for the summer programme for the week just gone, and another busy week coming up.

On Sunday we met up at the Severn Valley Railway 1940’s weekend at Kidderminster Station – lots of people dressed up and willing, indeed eager, to pose for as many photos as you might want. Moody atmosphere, interesting contrasts (for example, vintage cars contrasting with modern backdrops, 1940s soldiers drinking 2020s energy drinks, etc). Personally, if I’m shooting re-enactments, I don’t want to try to make a photograph that could have been taken in the 1940s, I want to take one that could only have been taken in the present day – but that’s just me. There were probably 8-10 BPS members there that day, possibly more that I didn’t see as I had to leave early, and I hope that everyone had as good a time as I did. Thanks to Colin for organising it.

On Tuesday Steve had organized a lunch and Canal Walk starting at the Queens Head Pub on the canal. I can’t report on that event as unfortunately I was not able to go, but I hope it went well!

Then on Saturday (yesterday), a few of us met up in Bromsgrove High Street, first for the national Town Criers competition (which I found much more interesting than I had expected it to be), and then for a trip to the Norton Collection Museum. Perhaps not full of photographic opportunities, but a really fascinating museum to visit – I’d encourage anyone with an interest in Bromsgrove’s history (and that of the local area) to pay it a visit.

Coming up this week, Steve is leading another canal walk – this time on Tuesday evening starting from the Navigation Inn at 6:30. I’m planning to be there, so hopefully I’ll see a few of you.

The following day, Wednesday 18th June, is a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park, organized by Sheila and Linda. It’s not somewhere I’ve been before, so I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been told that a long lens is a good idea, as well as a standard lens and possibly even a macro. Should be fun.

One final event to note before the next newsletter – next weekend Saturday 21st June is Bromsgrove’s Court Leet and Fair Day, meaning various events and processions of dignitaries along the High Street. Might be some photographs to be had… There’s no formal BPS trip planned at present (and I’m away so I can’t lead one) but a date for your diaries none-the-less.

That’s all the news for this week I think. The latest summer programme calendar is always available to look at on the BPS website (thanks David) – I’ve pasted a copy below too for your convenience. Things are looking a bit quiet in July and the start of August at present, so if anyone knows of any events going on that members might be interested in, or better still, if anyone wants to volunteer to lead an event (it’s really not that much work – just tell people you are going to be going somewhere, and when to meet up), that would be great!
