A very busy week just gone on the summer programme – trips on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.

On Tuesday about 10 BPS members met up at the Jinney Ring for photography, chats, and tea and cakes. It was a bit windy for macro photography, but plenty of opportunities for creative images of glass work (and glass worker). Many thanks to Steve for organizing.

A bonus trip organized by Den at the last minute saw a similar number visiting the Wildlife and Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge – unfortunately I was not able to go this time, but I certainly plan to go down there sometime soon myself. Some lovely images were posted, so thanks Den for organizing this one.

Then on Saturday (yesterday), a dozen or so members met up at Hagley Park for a fun walk around the estate, with plenty of butterflies, damselflies and other insects on display, as well as deer. For the non-nature photographers there were also interesting architectural follies, and splendid views. Many thanks to Ele for arranging this one.

After such a busy week, this coming week is quieter – in fact there’s no organized trips on the calendar until a week on Tuesday, July 8th, when David J is arranging a trip to Morgrove Coppice, near Coughton Court. More details to follow nearer the time. However, be sure to keep your eyes on the WhatsApp group (and the email list) in case there are any more last minute arrangements like we had last week.

In other news, you will no doubt have seen the email that David forwarded from Leigh Preston regarding a session with the Ragged Victorians at Avoncroft Museum in October. If you are interested, please contact Leigh directly.

Speaking of Avoncroft Museum, I was there on Tuesday night for the quarterly meeting of Bromsgrove Arts Alive, of which BPS is a member. I was chatting to Zoe, who runs the site, about the possibility of arranging a BPS visit there sometime as part of the summer programme. If there were enough people interested (we’d probably need about 12 minimum) they could open up out-of-hours to make it easier to get shots without random members of the public in the way… we could even get a model or two to attend, as we have done in the past. Cost (without model) would be about £18 per person depending on numbers – so at this point I’m just trying to get a feel for the level of interest in such a trip.

Avoncroft Museum has been quite badly affected by the A38 road closures on weekends – while they ARE still open and can be accessed, a lot of potential visitors are put off thinking that they can’t be reached. So please spread the word if anyone was thinking of visiting, that it is open for business.

One more thing that came out of the meeting there – one of the other attendees was a former BPS member Keith Woolford – he was there representing the Midland Sinfonia, and asked me to say hi on his behalf to any long-time members that might remember him.

I think that’s all I’ve got for this week.

Richard
