The BPS 2025-2026 season is now properly underway, with last Tuesday seeing both the first early session and the first outside speaker.

In the early session, a packed stage enjoyed the “Show and Tell” of images from the Summer Program from a variety of authors, expertly curated and presented by David Jellie.

The main session featured a presentation on “Mobile Phone Photography” by Anil Patel. I’m not sure we were necessarily the ideal audience for his presentation, which was perhaps a little basic for a room full of experienced photographers, but everyone still has something to learn, and I picked up an interesting tip or two. There were some good photos on display too – I hope everyone got a chance to check out the prints as well as the images that were displayed on screen during the evening.

This coming Tuesday we have an early session from me, talking about backup – why you need it and how best to achieve it without breaking the bank. If you don’t have backups of your photos, then you WILL lose them – it’s a matter of when rather than if…

The main session is our first PDI competition. There has been a very healthy entry, so with 100ish of the finest members’ images to see, a new scoring system to get to grips with, and a new competition secretary running the show, it should be an exciting evening. With a bit of luck our efforts to calibrate the projector will have paid off too.

As if that wasn’t enough, I am informed that there will also be a raffle this Tuesday, so bring along some cash.

That’s it for this week

Richard
