11.01.2026 Vocal Point

It’s a late one and a short one this week as I am barely functioning – this stupid bug will not go away!

I hope everyone had a good time at the party/quiz last week – based on the comments at the time (and since) it certainly seems that they did. Huge thanks to everyone that helped – especially Ele and Linda who did most of the organizing, but also to everyone that just turned up and got stuck in on the day. I hadn’t set a quiz before so apologies if it was too hard/too easy/too boring/too interesting – I tried to strike a balance between all of the above.

We have a treat coming up this coming Tuesday with Tesni Ward’s talk – I’m sure you all saw Jan’s email about this but I will paste a copy below:

Just a quick reminder and a bit of excitement-building for this coming Tuesday, 13th January, when we’ll be welcoming Tesni Ward for a Zoom talk, which we’ll be hosting together at the club as usual.

Tesni is a highly regarded wildlife photographer, known for her thoughtful, ethical approach to photographing animals in their natural environments. Her work combines strong technical skill with a real respect for wildlife, and she’s particularly good at explaining how and why images work – not just showing the final results.

Her talk for us is titled:

Working with Wildlife

Tesni describes the talk as follows:

“Working with wildlife can be challenging yet rewarding. Wildlife photography will push you to your limits and test even the most determined of individuals. This talk goes through some of my experiences, both good and bad, and how I worked to develop an extensive repertoire of failure in challenging situations, both in the UK and further afield.”

It promises to be an honest, engaging and informative evening, and a great way to start the 2026 year’s programme.

We’re really looking forward to hosting Tesni and hope you can join us on Tuesday evening. Finally, a reminder that the 3rd print competition is open. See Den’s email for more information.

I don’t think there is an early session this week – if there is it’s not mentioned on the website, but I am sure David will send out a correction as soon as he reads this if I am wrong!
