A most enjoyable evening at Avoncroft last Tuesday for the “Bromsgrove Battle” interclub competition. For once, everything that could have gone wrong… didn’t. Lots of work behind the scenes went to making sure that the whole evening went smoothly, with particular thanks due to Jenny for coordinating with all the other clubs, Den for making sure that all entries were in Pixoroo in time, Ele for sorting out the car parking situation, Sheila for sorting the cakes, and David for stepping as second reserve competition secretary to run the show on the night when Den was taken ill. But in fact there were many, many others who pitched in on the night to make light work of the setup (and the putting away), the raffle, the car parking, and generally making our visitors feel welcome.
It’s always a fun evening, and the atmosphere in the hall was excellent – the comments from the other clubs attending were unanimously appreciative. Bob Goode must be one of the best judges on the circuit – if not the best – and his commentary and critiques were excellent throughout. An illustration too of how much better the feedback from the judge can be when they are given a manageable number of images to view on the night.
Some fantastic images on display, and some inspiring images from our visiting clubs too. Things were neck-and-neck at half time with just a point in it, but Solihull pulled away in the second half with some exceptionally high-scoring PDI images – I believe they scored 98 out of a possible 100 points on this section. Congratulations to them, and to everyone from BPS whose images were chosen to represent the club this time around. 3rd place in such company is no disgrace.
This coming Tuesday we have another competition, but this time it’s just us competing, in the 3rd Print Competition of the season (Colour and Nature sections). Good luck to everyone who has entered, and I’m sure our judge Louise Hill will actually have a tricky night ahead of her trying to select the best images.
Ahead of the competition we will have an early session from me, on the topic (as requested by members) “Which mode to pick and capturing moving objects”. If there are any other topics people would like covered in early sessions, remember to mention them to David and we will see what we can do!
That’s it for this week – I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday.
Richard
