A quick one today as I’m on holiday…
A successful night on Tuesday vs Stourbridge, in a “game of two halves” where Stourport led on the prints but we came back strongly on the PDI images to take the trophy. Some excellent images from both clubs, and a good judge in Tom Swallows – a new face on the judging circuit but I thought his comments were very appropriate and helpful (and of course, he gave the right result!) Thanks to everyone who made the event work so well and our visitors feel so welcome, especially the tea rota volunteers and Sheila for the fabulous home-made cakes.
Yesterday there was a very large interclub competition hosted by the MCPF at Braunstone, Leicester, and attended by Jenny Webster and a team of helpers from BPS. I was not able to attend myself, but I have included Jenny’s report below:
“Hi to all members..Today we attended the very large inter club event at Braunstone Leicester.
We had a PDI entry and a Print entry…
Our images stood up to the standard in PDI…but we were just 2 points short of the top 8 clubs…
However some of those images did score 13 and the MCPF have held these and will possibly use them in the Federation Inter…this event to have an image in is remarkable for our club…and pdi they have held 5.
The images held are

Then we did the second half with our print entry…again we were of a very high standing…but this time we were 3 points after the 8th club…and only the top 8 clubs can continue..
But again within our entry….we had high score prints which the MCPF Wish to use and of course we really want them to use Bromsgroves images…..

We have learnt so much more on how this competition runs and I feel very sure that next year we will have a higher place…..but I am so proud that this year to have 9 images that the MCPF Are considering to represent them from Bromsgrove…

Coming up on Tuesday we have Volunteer night, featuring a selection of BPS members giving short presentations on topics close to their hearts. I’m afraid I don’t have the details of who is presenting or on what topic – so you’ll have to turn up and find out!
Ahead of the main session, Jenny W will be running an early session about Still Life photography. Once again, I’m going to paste the details from Jenny below:
“Hi Members,My early session on Tuesday Evening…is called What is Still Life?
I will chat about Still Life and the expectations of a still Life….
Also bringing along x3 still life set ups….or part set ups…
To Explain,
I Will prefer to call the Still LIFE workings ..active Life ….he he yep that’s different…
I Will bring along a part set up which you will photograph….yes bring your cameras please…then the unfinished image will be finalised with added elements that you have at home or what I have on offer…we will not cover this on the night! But this could be planned on another early session.
This will make every image different…
This type of Active Life image spans in a huge variety of adding life to the Still….I will talk about this. During the session….but the talk is designed to really make you think about still life in a different way…and give it a try…
And to give you thoughts, on how to make those images, that only you have….Yours and break away from the same same….images…
Some cut out work skills will be needed, to do this work….maybe Adding Textures….BUT REALLY its you developing a creative mind……
