03.05.2026 Vocal Point

Such terrible news earlier this week about Colin – everyone at BPS has been deeply saddened, and we are all feeling a great sense of loss. Colin was such a lovely man, and BPS will not be the same without his cheeky grin.

While I was searching around for things to say, I came across this article that I thought members might find interesting:

I have heard from Colin’s family – they mentioned that they knew Colin really appreciated the BPS meetings on Tuesdays and that he had many friends there, and they trust we will raise a glass/cup of tea to Colin at Tuesday’s meeting! I’m sure we will all want to do that, but we also plan to do something a little bigger the following Tuesday (May 12th), when Judith will be able to attend and hopefully bring some of Colin’s prints along for viewing, with a book of remembrance and a chance for members to share thoughts on what Colin meant to them and to BPS. That night is a model night, which seems particularly fitting.

I don’t have any more information regarding funeral arrangements as yet, other than that because paramedics were called, they classed the death as “Sudden” which means an autopsy and the Coroner being involved. It may be some time before a death certificate is issued.

On a happier note, the Annual Novice competition on Tuesday was a great success, with excellent prints and good judging from Monica Doshi. Congratulations to all those who entered, and especially those whose work was awarded the highest scores!

This Tuesday we have a presentation from Steve Varman – I believe the presentation will be focussed on Street photography (though I may have misremembered that), but his website suggests he is skilled across all sorts of genres! No early session, but I’ll try to open up a little early as members may want to have time to chat before the session gets underway.

Remember that any motions for the AGM should also be given to the club secretary by this Tuesday.
