The first meeting of our summer season got off to a flying start at Harvington Hall on Tuesday. The weather was a little dull, but we managed to dodge the rain and over a dozen members enjoyed a pleasant walk around the pond, trying to get pictures of the fish as they jumped out of the water, or of the photographers as they fell into the water… unfortunately in both cases the action was too fast and unpredictable to be able to capture. These summer season meetings are not just about the photographic opportunities – they are also social events, with time for chatting to fellow photographers that’s not always easy to find on club nights!

This coming Tuesday the summer season continues at Stourport – you should already have seen the email from Mike Norton with the details. There’s always plenty of subjects to photograph in Stourport – colourful canal boats, rowers on the river, people around the town, fairgrounds, etc etc, so it should be a good evening.

Speaking of social events in the summer programme, we are hoping to hold a barbecue this year – July 26th is looking like the most likely date, other details to be announced nearer the time.

Finally, for those of you that might have missed the Awards night (or who want to relive it), the video slideshow that Nigel put together of the winning images from the year is now available on YouTube at https://youtu.be/naDkecagisM . As usual, please don’t share this link outside the club.

What a great evening we had on Tuesday at the annual awards – many thanks to everyone who made it such a success, especially everyone involved in organising the refreshments but most of all to Nigel who put in a huge amount of work not only organising all the trophies and certificates, but also putting together the slideshow of all the winning images for the year – a great reminder of the depth of talent we have in the club.

A copy of the video should be available for club members on YouTube soon – I will send round a link.

This Tuesday sees the first meeting of the Summer Program – we will be visiting Harvington Hall (meet at 7pm in the car park). Often a good spot for some nature photography of dragonflies and other insects, as well as the Hall, Church and surroundings. I hope to see you there, and let’s hope the weather is kind to us!

Last week’s BPS meeting was the AGM, and as a result we now have a new committee, a new chair, and a new title for the weekly email…

I’m sure you have all seen the email from Jenny regarding the club’s (and the members) successes in the MCPF competition – many congratulations to all those whose pictures were accepted and especially to Jenny for her awards!

This coming Tuesday May 31st will be the final meeting of the year at Avoncroft Arts Centre before we take a break for the Summer Season, and it’s a rather special one! The last two awards ceremonies have had to be held via Zoom, so it’s going to be particularly good to be able to celebrate the achievements of so many club members in person this year.

To mark the occasion, party food and drinks will be provided, so make sure you arrive in time to grab some food before the show starts!

I hope to see many of you on Tuesday!

Richard
