It was great to see so many familiar faces at out opening night on Tuesday, but it was also great to see so many new faces – potential (and as of now, some fully paid up) new members eager to see what BPS is all about and what makes it such a fun club to be a member of!
Coming up this Tuesday we have our first presentation of the season – it’s a change to what we had originally planned and advertised due to Bill Ward being unavailable (something about a play he had to appear in), but we threw our new Programme Secretary in at the deep end and tasked him with coming up with a replacement speaker at short notice, and he has delivered. We are delighted to be welcoming Richard Guest with a talk on Astrophotography – he comes highly recommended following a recent talk at the local Astronomical Society, and (to quote from the blurb from another of his recent talks),
“Richard is a local, long term astronomy enthusiast and photographer of the night sky. He has produced some award winning images from his ‘light polluted’ backyard, dispelling the myth that good astrophotography can only be achieved in designated dark sky areas!”
Should be a great night, even for those who are not (yet) into astrophotography!
Remember that our first competition of the season is in just 2 weeks time (so you still have a week before entries close). If you have any questions about how to enter then please chat to Den or any of the committee on Tuesday who can help you with your entry – and do remember that you need to have paid your subscription for your entry to be accepted.
I’ll be forwarding a couple of emails to the group that were sent to me as Chairman under the “please send this to your members if you think they might be interested” category – look out for them and read/ignore them as you wish!
We don’t have an early session planned for this week – if anyone has any suggestions for topics they would particularly like to see covered in an early session then please let me or David know, and we will see what we can arrange. Doors will therefore open on Tuesday at around 7:45 – I hope to see you then.
Richard
