What a great evening we had last Tuesday, with Ele’s early session on Lightroom followed by the Annual Novice competition. Some great photographs on display, and very thoughtful, helpful, and entertaining comments from our judge Peter Young.
Next week we have a couple of sessions to look forward to. The early session will be a “Show and Tell” event where everyone is invited to bring a photo or two to share with the group and (optionally) discuss what the thought process behind it might have been, what they like (or dislike) about it, etc. Prints can be brought along on the night, or if you have a PDI please email it to David ahead of the night so he can arrange to display it on the TV on stage.
The main session is a presentation from Richard and Becky Harding entitled “Grow Your Own Models”. Sounds intriguing! Unfortunately I will miss it, which means it’s pretty much guaranteed to be a good one.
As I mentioned last week, we are rapidly approaching the end of the main season, meaning (a) the AGM is upon us, (b) awards night is nearly here and (c) we are starting to think about the Summer programme.
For the AGM on May 20th, please let our Secretary Sarah Broomfield know if there are any motions or agenda items you would like discussing, or talk to a committee member. Speaking of committee members, if anyone is interested in joining the committee and helping to keep the club running smoothly, once again please see Sarah for a nomination form or talk to one of the committee members.
Arrangements for the awards night are well in hand – thanks to Ele and her team, and by now everyone should have booked their meal options, if desired.
The summer programme is starting to take shape, with a few dates already pencilled in and others being planned – but there is still plenty of room, so if you have an idea of a trip you would like to see – or better still, lead – then please let me know.
Note that any event listed without a “lead person” entry is for information only – things that we know are happening in the area that might be of interest to members, but there is no trip planned there at present. If anyone wants to organise a meetup for one of these events, let me know and I can add more details to the calendar.
Finally, a couple of reminders. Firstly, a gentle reminder that the tea/coffee fee is £1, which covers one drink and one pack of biscuits. We seem to be getting some rather strange amounts in the collection tin each week, that are not divisible by £1. We also have had a few 1 euro coins in there – an easy mistake to make but please double check as it creates a bit of extra work for our treasurer.
Secondly, I thought I would throw in a reminder of the importance of backing up your photographs. Hard disks can and do fail, and if your photos are only stored in a single location then sooner or later you WILL lose them. I did an early session on backup methods and methodologies a few years ago, and will do another one next season, but for now, just a reminder that if you haven’t backed up your photographs lately, maybe you should. Better still, set up an automatic backup system.
That’s it for this week. Seems to have turned into a bit of a long one! See you all in a couple of weeks.
Richard
