20/06/2021 Vocal Point

Hi all

It may be a grey day today, but the sun certainly shone on us this week, especially for our summer outing on Tuesday at Jenny Webster’s garden. What a great evening and once again thanks to Jenny and everyone else who worked so hard to make it a successful evening. Please remember, we had some very good models on the evening, so please send me your images and I will make sure that they get passed on to the models.

We will be hoping for some good weather again this week for our Tuesday evening at Avoncroft walled garden. Please look out for further details from Mike Norton. The weather forecast for Tuesday is a bit unpredictable. We always have to accept that good weather is far from guaranteed in this country – which means that there is always a chance that an outdoor event would be cancelled at short notice. If it looks like the weather would be against us it is likely that we would make the decision to cancel early Tuesday afternoon. If in doubt, please check your emails.

Next year’s programme is coming together nicely – taking into account that we are still subject to the uncertainties surrounding covid. We are looking to put together a series of early sessions which are educational, informative and entertaining. Please let us know what you would like us to cover in the early sessions, the more ideas that you give us, the more we can help you in return.

Finally, those of you that attended the AGM recently will know that our competition secretary – Nigel Taylor will be stepping down from this post in 10 months time after many years of excellent work. We are looking ahead and would like to have someone ready to pick up the reins next year. We feel that this is a role that would work very well with two members working together – one to cover the technical side of the post such as collating images and operating the necessary software, and the other dealing with the “human side” such as liaising with judges and members.  It appears that we have someone available to cover the technical side but we are looking for someone to take on the HR role. We know that our members have a wide range of skills and one of you would just be perfect to help your society. There will be plenty of support from other committee members. By stepping forward now, there will be plenty of time to learn more about how the role functions during the coming season. Your committee is always open to new blood and new ideas. If you would like any more information about this role then please contact me.

See you all this week.

Best wishes

David
