02/06/2020 Vocal Point

Hi all

This week’s Vocal Point is all about giving, so I will start by giving you good news. Robin Potticary has had an image shortlisted for the Landscape Photographer of the Year award – results to be announced in the Autumn. Robin submitted 8 images, but hasn’t been told which one has been shortlisted. I have attached a Zip folder of all the images, so it is your turn to be judges and see if you can predict which one is in line for an award – my choice is Floods. Also, further congratulations to Jenny Webster who has been awarded 2 gold medals  1 in mono, 1 PSA (the highest of the gold medals )nature in one competition.

I give you further news about Jenny who has joined the committee as Interclub Competition Co-ordinator – welcome Jenny.

Tomorrow night is about giving – we have our Annual Awards Night on Zoom, when we recognise the achievements and hard work of our members over this past season. Many thanks to Nigel for the work he has put into the competitions.

I also give you the minutes from the AGM. (Attached)

However, I have saved the best for last. We have received feedback from 26 members on the Summer Programme with a large majority prepared to pay for additional presenters over the next 3 months. Just to be controversial, we are going to ignore your opinions for a change. We have decided that our finances are in a healthy enough position to give you some free presentations during the year. We will arrange for two presentations from external lecturers before the end of July, with an option for a third lecture in August if circumstances remain the same. The dates will be confirmed in due course, depending on the availability of speakers.

Well, that’s enough good news for now. I will send you another message later today confirming details of next weeks Panel of Three competition.

Best wishes
