28/02/2021 Vocal Point

Hi all

There seems to be a lot to cover this week but first off, many thanks to Andy Kent for a very entertaining presentation last Tuesday. He showed us an eclectic mix of images with lots of helpful tips and back stories. Our programme has produced many gems this year.

We continue to do well in exhibitions. Six members had acceptances at Clay Cross National Exhibition –

Julie Hall – 5

Jenny Webster – 4 including Best In Class for “In The Arms of Mother”

Sue Vernon – 3

Nick Veale – 2

Colin Close – 1

David Jellie – 1 including Commended for “Shelter From the Storm”

Whilst this was not a club competition, in most instances, members’ clubs were recorded. 203 clubs participated – we came 7th (only 1 member behind Smethwick) in number of members who received acceptances and 12th in number of total acceptances. This was really an excellent result for Bromsgrove PS.

Also, special mention should go to Colin Close who had 14 acceptances in EuroCircuit 202 including Commended for The Boxer; in the Desert Fox Exhibition in Kenya Commended for the Syndicate; in Philharmonic Exhibition (Kyrgyztan) 11 acceptances; in the Serbia Montenegro Grand Circuit Gold Medals for Assertive and Adornment., and Commended for High Note and Working Out. Well done Colin for these excellent results.

Jenny has released her Nature Blog for March jenny-websters-nature-tips She is full of enthusiasm for the year ahead as we hope to be released from the constraints of lockdown in the near future. Subject to any regulations that may apply at the time, she is hoping to organise a number of outings for late spring and the summer. Please have a look at her blog and if you have any suggestions then please get in touch.

I know that there are a few people taking Astro-Photography. If that is you, then you will be interested to hear that the latest upgrade for Affinity Photo has a special stacking function for Astro images.

Looking to the week ahead –

Tuesday 2 March – there is no Zoom meeting this week. This is the deadline for entries in the PDI Set Subject “Frames”

Wednesday 3rd March – Cwmbran “Show Me Yours – we will be represented by Paul Smith, Mike Childs, Jenny Webster, Rebekah Nash and Tony Gervis

Thursday 4th March – Five a Side Interclub hosted by Stourbridge Photographic Society.

We are still awaiting Zoom links to these meetings and they will be forwarded to you as soon as we receive them.

Well, that’s all for this week.

Best wishes

David
