28/11/2021 Vocal Point

Hi all

Our studio nights are always a great chance to socialise with other members whilst practicing your studio photography skills. Last Tuesday was one of the best. Our main set model was Chris Russell – a wood whittler. Chris has a face full of character and his friendly, relaxed manner gave us all an opportunity to get some quality shots. Also, we had Monica and Anne in dramatic period dress giving us some wonderful photo opportunities whilst really entering into the spirit of the evening.

This week we have our second print competition of the year – colour and mono with judge Peter Sivitter. Good luck to everyone that is entering.

You will all be aware that the new variety of coronavirus has taken everyone back to facemask wearing in certain situations. Whilst it appears that the legal requirement applies only to shops and public transport, it would be wise to re-introduce mask-wearing (unless you are exempt) to our Tuesday night meetings – especially whilst walking about in the hall. As before, please be mindful of other people’s personal space.

Finally, congratulations are in order. Ele Rea can now add CPAGB after her name. She was very successful with her images at the adjudication in Newton Abbot yesterday.

I have also overlooked the award of QPSA to Julie Hall a few weeks ago, which has been gained through successful entries in international exhibitions.

Massive congratulations are due to both Ele and Julie.

I am pleased to advise you all that Rebekah nash has successfully attained her QPSA for entries into international exhibitions. Well done Beks.

There will be an early session this week. I will be presenting a session on Affinity Photo. There are quite a few members using it already, but it may be that some of you took advantage of the special Black Friday deal to download it at a special price. Or, you may be thinking about it in the future. Regular users rank it as high as Photoshop – at a fraction of the price.

This week I will do a basic introduction to Photo and at a later date, I will run a more advanced session.

Hopefully, this session will be run on Zoom.

See you all on Tuesday

Best wishes

David
