Some fascinating images on display from Richard Guest last Tuesday – perhaps not something that many of us would be able to take, but inspiring nonetheless. Amazing what’s up there, invisible to the naked eye and only revealed via photography – I’ve always been attracted to photography that captures things that can’t otherwise be observed, whether it’s because they are too dark, too fast, too small (or too bright, too slow, or too large).
I’m away for the next meeting on Tuesday, which usually means it will be a good one. I’m sure David and Den will make sure that all possible questions about getting your images into competition will be covered. Remember that Tuesday is the last day to enter the first PDI competition, and that you need to have paid your subscription to be eligible to enter. I’m looking forward to seeing some great images in the competition.
For anyone new to the club who is reading this, a quick word on competitions. Firstly, there’s no obligation to enter if you don’t want to, or if you don’t feel ready. If you do enter, your image will be reviewed by the judge on the night and some feedback given on what they like about the image, and what they think could have been done differently to improve it. The image will then be given a score (out of 20). Even if you don’t enter, competition nights are a great chance to see other photographers’ work, and you can learn a lot from the judge’s comments (and see to what extent the judge’s thoughts align with your own!) And remember, if the judge doesn’t like your image as much as you do, that you shot it for you, not for them – it’s your opinion that matters the most.
I’ve asked David to do next week’s Vocal Point for me, so I will see you all in a couple of weeks.
